Hey

There's a thread already started called bass sound that talks about some of the different ways you can make a bass sound fat. The main ways I tend to go are adding saturation, which produces distortion to add fatness, chorusing, although this needs to be applied carefully to the very bottom frequencies otherwise it adds width but makes the bass weaker, and so on.... check the other thread for more details.

Another thing that's very important when making basslines is to vary the dynamics of the bass. Having a bassline that stays at one volume throughout makes a track sound overcrowded and lifeless. The bassline should move in and out with the other parts. A common way of doing this is sidechaining a compressor on the bass, with the sidechain triggered by another low frequency sound that needs emphasising - typically the kick drum. This method is descibed at the start of the advanced course.
