Post what you think a "sell out" in music is, how you think an artist can become one and if you want, an artist that you think has sold out.

To me, a sell out is somebody who betrays a cause for personal advancement.
Ex: a band says they would never sign on to a major record label, but they later did, this makes them sellouts.

Yeah, selling out is giving up on your values for monetary gain. Most people are guilty of it just because of the nature of money - the route of all evil, but sadly what makes the world go round! I think it's perfectly acceptable to try to make more mainstream music, as long as you believe in it still, as there's a lot of satisfaction in your music having mass appeal and being appreciated by lots of people. It's very difficult to make a living out of underground, minority genres, but some people manage it, and they're generally the ones I end up having most respect for!
