Hey Guys,

I put aside my other project for the time being... I'll swing around back on it in a bit, but I wanted to try something new for a bit.  I looked around for some remix contests and entered one just to see what I can come up with.  It's not my favorite song or anything, but I thought it could be an interesting challenge just to see where it goes.

Here's what I came up with over the weekend...

Oh yeah there is another reason for my lack of production in that I am inspired by making my own sound and its just fun to biuld a bank of sounds. I wanted to ask everyone involved in the sunday roast whoops post   Tongue....What level are you guys at i am half way through the basics?

Alright Orchy

well I have been through both courses... and trying things out for about 6 months... I have no musical background really I can play some basic drums and like to mix records.

But i am really enjoying creating music now.... picked up on things pretty well and pleased with some of the results..

I would suggest when you feel comfortable with the software ... get using your sample bank of sounds and construct a musical piece and post it here

Hi Eli

well I will begin by saying I dont particularly like the original... not my thing at all

and your remix... i have to say is VERY MUCH IN YOUR STYLE....
I have a problem with it though.... I hate being negative.... but thats just me being honest

Im not feeling the first 4 minutes of the track at all it feels like a very long intro.... and it is bearly recognisable
being honest it just sounds like you are jamming on the track with effects (a DJ mixing 2 tracks) ... run out of ideas and just throw some of the original track on the end....

Im gonna send you a link to an audio file .... that I would consider invaluable in your quest to remix
Quote ' creating your own track from scratch is 1 thing.... remixing someone elses creativity is quite another'

I have used an audio file & cut out certain things as I dont want to promote anything on here.... hw ever if you relate to this guy.... I will make a recommendation via private message on how to attain this DVD if you wish to persue remixing in the future...

I am & have always been of the opinion of what this guy talks about... so please understand when I say.... Always maintain the essence of the original music...

Please take all I have said with kindness.... I love your style & respect your music.... remixing is a different kettle of fish.... of course you need to add you unique style ... but i think with a little more subtle yet keeping the character of the original

Any way sit back and listen to this....
just a few tip on the way to go when contemplating a remix & bear in mind this guy has been asked by record companies specifically to make official remixes for... kyle minogue... beyonce to name a couple

by the way... this link wont be up for that long

Morgan, I appreciate your comments and link... Is that you speaking on the track? I'd love to know more about your remix philosophy.

Didn't mean to hit a raw nerve or suggest that remixing was easy.     I would say that interpretations are up to the listener and that their judgement is complex. Making anything worthwhile is hard, but I don't think it's as far off as you might think. Of course we might not agree...

Just trying out new ideas, I'd love to know what you didn't like, and if anything you did. Sometimes we have to make a mess to find out inspiration.

hey Eli....

you havent hit a raw nerve... cause I couldn't care less for Matisyahu & I dont recall you mentioning remixing was easy.... It was not my intention to give you that impression...
I was actually trying to be helpful Wink

I dont dislike what you have done.... like i say I like your style of keeping me on the edge.... but in this its 4 minutes of pretty much the same and the tension of the track is killing me...

the chopped up vocals sound great.... and to some one who likes or know this track.... like myself i would expect it to conform in some way... alot sooner ... like 30 seconds in... give them a a change of key & a sense of verse then maybe suspend the listener alittle longer

I am trying to imagining this being played in a club & sat at home

If i was sat at home... I would want the track to hold my interest this way....
and in a club i think it would sound like a very good on the fly mix / mashup

Im not out to offend or put you off in any way.... although the first time i listened to it after about a minute of the track I was skipping through it
this is why I wanted to encourage you to maybe rethink the arrangement...

Im not sure what is best sometimes Eli.... should i be honest and Risk hurting your feelings.... Or just say nothing at all?

PeaceYing Yang

It's hard to hear feedback, especially when this is your main place for feedback. Remember One persons opinion may vary quite alot from another persons.
I think if we are going to progress at all in this industry we need to be able to take negative feedback. (as long as it's helpful)
So I am all for people being honest.. I know my tracks aren't that great so don't be afraid to tell me if you don't like something. Sometimes I may listen , sometimes I may not haha.

As you can tell I made it back from army adventure, hopefully I will start something tomorrow if I can muster up some energy..I can barely move at this point

And this is why I say it's always so hard to comment on these posts, in my opinion they are all great and have some amazing ideas...

The feedback definitely helps the directions of our songs so that more than one person can enjoy the art... I think in music there should be a small element of "what others want".

So feedback can be hard to swallow but it's worth it, good or bad...

Make sense anyone? Or am I just a nutcase...

Hi All....

Wise words from you guys.... It is just my opinion.... and I would be really happy for Eli if it made 1st or runner up....

But like the audio file I posted.... you have to play the game... & play it better than every one else.... AND of course putting you own spin on it....

personally... i think Matisyahu's a t**ser and I dont like his music (GETS A BIG OLD YAWN FROM ME)
BUT... ya know what....
i did a quick research of my own... couldnt really find any remixes & i didnt check which record label he was signed to

what i found was a Collaboration... with a couple of bands i like... Infected Mushroom & The Crystal Method...
now I kinda like the t**ser Tongue

And this is my point.... he wants to associate his music with these guys... so taking this into account ... and following the same style you would stand a better chance of getting noticed especially if it was he himself judging the competition...
