Record is a great application, particularly for getting a good sound quickly! It's easy on the eye and easy to use. If you're already familiar with more traditional recording and MIDI work then it'll take no time at all to get going. I think I'm going to use it to make a pop album this year and see how I get on. I'm also making a series of movies using it for LoopTV (http://www.looptv.net), which will be coming out over the next couple of months on the Tech Talk channel... 8)

Iv'e been using Reason 4 for about a year now and i love it.

Had a play with Cubase 5 & Ableton but i really dont like them ???

I know people like the use of VST's & VSTI's but i see them as more hassle than anything else.

Its only till u have a go with Cubase etc that u realise how much u really like Reason.

I think i'll be using Reason 4 for a very long time !!!!

It certainly simplifies things a bit when you cut out the external devices, and Reason has a lot to offer when it comes to instruments and effects. Some people rely heavily on external plugs though, not to mention all the shareware stuff available.

Through my work, I've had to get to know all the music apps, which can be a real struggle at first when you're used to one. However, they all have benefits and different pros and cons, so if you take the time then in the end it's worth it and will benefit your music. Most of the best and most prolific producers I know use at least 2 different music software apps - it's by no means essential but can really benefit different stages of your production...

By the way, my first Record Tech Talk is now up: http://www.looptv.net/archives/category/a-tutorials/music-software-tutorials

Cheers,

Rob

I've been using reason for about a year now and am pretty comfortable.  But, I know I have barely tapped into it's full power.  I'd love to pick your brain one day.  Thanks for making yourself available.

Clap I am a reason user since 2005 with 2.5. I have been using 4.0 since it first come out. I am well pleased with Propellerhead myself. It has constant great changes and more tools for controlling your mix as well as easy to use to keep the creative juices flowing. I use this program because it can  be simple but at the same time you can get as complexed as you would like such as: BPM changes in the track, modulation of your sounds, mastering suites, effects that are so close to the real thing...only reason why it's not the same things is that you can turn the knobs with your fingers on that specific instrument. That is why you use your control surface board to give you that touchy feelly thing. I am well diversified on several genres such as Hip Hop, R&B, Pop and Gospel. I have done Rock tracks, even country. I love music and I don't care much about genre. You must specify what you are good at to close the gap and show people that your are indeed focused.
If you Don't invest in yourself, then don't expect someone else to invest in you.
