Hi Rob,
I have started the course and find it very clear and enjoyable. However I have a problem with getting audio into Ableton. I have an E-MU Tracker-pre, audio interface that connects to my PC via USB2. The PC has an M-Audio Audiophile 2496 sound card fitted. I can get audio out of the Ableton, but cannot get audio in. I know the EMU is receiving sound as I can make the overload LEDs light if I turn up the gain. Also I know that the PC recognises the E-MU because I installed it before I installed Ableton. When I check the Audio set-up screen in Ableton, the is no reference to the E-MU. Can you help please. Gyrojim |

Hey Jim,
I've emailed you about this. There's a module on the beginners course that shows you how to record audio into Live - module 5. Once you've got your soundcard set up correctly in the preferences, it will become the default input for audio tracks. To do this, go to the preferences (in the Live menu) and click on the audio tab, then choose the soundcard in the box that says 'Audio Input Device'. Now, any audio track's default input will become that source, and if you record enable an audio track (by hitting the record switch) you should see the audio from the interface appearing on that track. If you want to make sure an audio track is set up correctly then click on the i-o switch in the bottom right of the Live window and check that it says 'EXT IN' in the audio from box on the audio track, with the relevant inputs (e.g. 1/2) selected in the box below if that applies. The other thing to check is that the soundcard is configured correctly of course. You need to make sure that the input gains are turned up enough and any switches that choose the input type (e.g. mic, line etc.) are set correctly, and so on.... Does this help? Cheers, Rob
