Hello everybody,

I need to start my new home studio. I have a little money but not enough.

I have a PC Computer (Windows), Cool Edit Pro, an acoustic guitar, a SURE Microphone (SM58)...I think i have to buy a good sound card....

Any recommendation about a cheap sound card??

hi felix, was in the same position as you many years ago and know how it feels...I used an MAudio Delta 44 for many years along with and old pentium2 pc with windows 2000 on it and found it to be very reliable great latency for live recording and sequencing recorded audio..Unfortunatley i sold it on ebay for £30 last year..but if you want a new unused soundcard there are plenty of options out there from as little as £49+ i couldnt possibly list all the different types and prices here so here is a link to a site i use often for they will do great deals and offer sound advice  dealshttp://www.guitarampkeyboard.com/p.php?n=75 ..Also in my long experience of computer music going back to atari st and 286 and 486 pcs i have found that a pci based card delivers better perfomance than a usb or firewire card...Hope this helps ...

USB/Firewire interfaces have improved a lot and come down in price so I would have a look at what's available there too. PCI soundcards are a good option though. For good and reliable external interfaces, check out the new one from Focusrite (Saffire 6 USB), TC Electronic (Konnekt 6), PreSonus (Audiobox USB).... you're looking at over £100 though....

I've no experience of this one but it is very cheap (£60) and Lexicon are a pretty good company so you could take a look... http://www.lexiconpro.com/product.php?id=7

I got a Novation Nio for about 300 aussie bucks, (probably be around 100 pounds now) works quite well for everything I need it for.

Hi mate,

M-audio do a midi controller keyboard with built in soundcard called the Keyrig 49 and it's only about £65!

i say buy a keyboard controller from amazon or something. at least 25 keys. Only $60-100
also download fruity loops from pirate bay.  and thats it!! :)

By the looks of your existing equipment list, I'd probably suggest something along the lines of the M-Audio 2496 PCI card.  It's a good standard in/out card and about £40.  Probably not worth spending much more unless you have pro monitors/cables/mixers/mics/etc :)

Recording studios generally consist of three rooms: the studio itself, where the sound for the recording is created  the control room, where the sound from the studio is recorded and manipulated, and the machine room, where noisier equipment that may interfere with the recording process is kept.Music Facebook Layouts
